fishing from the handicap dock at Gilbert River.  Catfish,
trout, bass & crappie are among the few species to be
caught.
Public beaches are just right down the road,
including Walton Beach also known as Social Security
Beach, Collins Beach (clothing optional) &  North Unit
Beach.   There are no gas stations on the island.  Oregon
Department of Fish and Wildlife parking permits have
been required year round on Sauvie Island for several
years.  They are required at wildlife areas & the public
beaches.  The public beaches on the Columbia River
boast sturgeon and salmon fishing!

Watch and listen to the birds from the wildlife viewing
areas where you may see the Blue Heron & Sand Hill
Crane, Canadian Geese & occasionally a Bald Eagle!  In
the spring it is not common for the campground  guests to
observe the Osprey planning their new family.  View them
building their nest & then watch them raise & train their
young during the August & September months.

Sauvie Island has many u-pick farms where you can pick
from an assortment of fresh, locally grown fruits &
vegetables!  There are also some walnut trees available
for "u-pickers".   Many people visit Sauvie Island during
the Summer & Fall months.  The island has many things
to offer including, visiting the public beaches, swimming,
camping, visiting one of the many produce farms,
birdwatching, bicycling, hiking, fishing, hunting,
kayaking, kite boarding, people watching, u pick flowers
& more!
